Toyota would have decided to cancel the Lexus LF-ZC project. We are talking about the high-end electric sedan designed to become the flagship model of the group’s premium division. The plan, initially scheduled to debut on the market in 2027, is stopped according to Japanese media, citing sources close to the dossier. The choice is seen as a signal of strategic caution. It would be linked to the slowdown in global demand for electric vehicles and the changed competitive landscape of the automotive sector, which in recent months has forced many manufacturers to recalibrate priorities and investments.

Lexus LF-ZC project cancelled?
The LF-ZC was presented at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023 and, at the time, was considered one of Toyota’s most ambitious programs in the luxury electric segment. The project interruption comes as the group goes through a complex phase on the demand front. In recent days the group announced that global vehicle sales have decreased for the third consecutive month in April. In total, global deliveries are down 3.1% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 849,306 units, with a particularly negative trend abroad.
Sales decline
The regional picture confirms the greatest difficulties outside Japan. Overseas sales fell by 7.5%, while those in Japan increased by 24.2%. In the Middle East the decline would have been 33.7% (just over 31,000 vehicles) and in China the contraction 25.4%, in a market considered difficult. In the USA, a key market for Toyota, sales would have fallen by 4.6%. On the industrial front, global production in April instead shows a 2.0% year-on-year increase, thanks to a 12.9% rise in Asia that would have offset the declines recorded in the USA and Japan. Toyota’s data also include the Lexus brand.
