Aprilia sets record at Mugello, Martin is the fastest ever: 368.6 km/h

We witnessed history this morning at Mugello. During the FP2 session on the Tuscan track, Jorge Martin riding the Aprilia RS-GP26 broke the absolute top speed record in MotoGP, reaching a top speed of 368.6 km/h. A monstrous figure that impressed Martin himself, so much so that the Catalan, when he realized he had set this record, got slightly distracted, eventually running wide in a brief excursion onto the gravel.

Beating Binder’s 2023 record

Pedro Acosta’s Thursday predictions proved accurate. The young Murcian talent, speaking with journalists during media day, had speculated that speeds of 368 km/h could be reached at the end of Mugello’s main straight. The previous record belonged to a KTM home rider, Brad Binder. In 2023, during the Sprint also at the Italian GP, the South African had ‘stopped’ at 366.1 km/h.

Now it remains to be seen if Martin’s record will hold through qualifying, the Sprint, and Sunday’s GP, where slipstreaming tactics could also push someone to approach this new record.
