Historic qualifying for Aprilia at the Mugello circuit, where the Noale-based manufacturer monopolized the entire front row of the starting grid, but not only that. While Marco Bezzecchi claimed pole position setting a new lap record in 1:43.921, Jorge Martin (3rd and behind compatriot Raul Fernandez) reached the highest speed ever recorded on the Tuscan track, equal to 368.6 km/h. A perfect session for Aprilia, with the official team riders who, together with Fernandez, are preparing for the next Sprint race event. Bezzecchi and the tribute to Alex Zanardi
“The day started well and so now we enjoy it, but we obviously keep working. The pace is good but as you know it is never enough. We still need to understand tire wear well because especially with the front tire here we suffer. So far we have worked well, we must keep it up. I thank all the fans, it’s wonderful to see them so numerous already on Saturday. For me the helmet dedicated to Zanardi was a beautiful idea. Meanwhile, I wanted to thank his family who gave me permission to use the graphics. I cared about it because for us he was an incredible man not only in terms of sport but also in terms of life values.”
Fernandez: “No one expected such a result”
“I am really happy. I believe no one at Aprilia expected to be this strong in qualifying. We always know that the medium tire helps to ride, but I think no one expected to be this fast on a single lap. I believe a great job has been done. Yesterday we were a bit unlucky with the red flag, but today we put everything together and we will see what we can do. We are definitely in a situation where we can entertain the people here at Mugello a lot. Honestly I feel more ready for Sunday’s race because I like the medium tire more and I can ride more calmly.”

Martin: “I thought I had a bit more”
“I enjoyed this qualifying. That first lap behind Morbidelli was really nice, I did it very well. I thought I had a little more, but I couldn’t convert it on track. We were all there wanting to be behind others because here it makes a difference to be with someone, but the pace is still good. The feeling is good, it’s improving, and we know that Marco is very strong here. The important thing is to stay close, and then we will see if we can do something. I feel good, I will give my best.”
