In the coming years Alfa Romeo will launch a new compact family sedan, designed to compete directly with the Volkswagen Golf. It is set to become the brand’s first offering in the segment after the Giulietta went out of production in 2020. The strategy seems aimed at strengthening presence in the so-called segment C. An important step to capture volumes and expectations of a broader audience, without giving up the identity of the Biscione brand. The car, described as a future family sedan, therefore fits into a range that aims to renew itself gradually but decisively, supported by shared platforms and technologies within the group.

Alfa Romeo prepares a new sedan
The new compact will be based on the Stellantis STLA One platform, the multi-energy architecture of the parent company already intended to support models like Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra. Previously the same structure was referred to as STLA Medium. Its key feature is great versatility. It can indeed accommodate both electric powertrains and internal combustion engines, allowing Alfa Romeo to offer both solutions to expand the customer base. Confirmation also comes from what emerged during Stellantis’ presentation to investors, where an ambitious plan was outlined to reach 110 new global models by 2030, with a diversified engine range across all brands.
An increasingly broad range
The picture is completed by the rest of Alfa Romeo’s product offensive. In addition to the new offering that will have to join a mid-size SUV to replace the Tonale (and a future exclusive sports model linked to the BOTTEGAFUORISERIE division), a smaller hatchback has also been indicated, suggested by a teaser of an unidentified model inspired by icons like the 147 and Giulietta. Electric versions could focus on fast charging with an 800V architecture, while traditional engine variants will likely use mild-hybrid and plug-in solutions already present in the Stellantis ecosystem. Furthermore, all could integrate the steer-by-wire system provided by the platform, currently previewed by a Peugeot concept. Alfa Romeo has not provided definitive timings, but the Tonale replacement is indicated for 2029.
