The return to Mugello
The Italian Grand Prix this weekend will be a particularly exciting event for Luca Marini, who will compete for the second time in his career at Mugello as an official Honda rider. Last year, in fact, #10 did not take part in his home GP due to an injury, with the opportunity now presenting itself two years after the last race on the Tuscan track.

Pushing to the max right away
All this just two weekends after the 6th place achieved in Barcelona, on a Sunday unfortunately marked by bad crashes and two red flags. The progress made by Honda remains a good sign for Marini, leader of the ranking of riders who are members of the Japanese manufacturer: “Unfortunately last year I was only a spectator at Mugello, so I can’t wait to participate this year. It’s a really special race for any rider and, as an Italian, I really enjoy the weekend with the fans: it’s one of those iconic races on the calendar. As Honda, we arrive in Italy at a good time after a positive weekend and an encouraging Monday test, so I want to start strong right away. As always, Friday afternoon could be the most important session of the weekend. There’s a lot to do, a lot of potential to show.”

At Mugello with optimism
Joan Mir also eager to repeat, who climbed the podium in the last race only to be demoted from 2nd to 13th place due to a time penalty for irregular tire pressure: “We arrive in Italy with great motivation and confidence – explained the 2020 world champion – our weekend in Barcelona ended positively and I want to bring this feeling to the Mugello weekend as well. It’s not a track where we are particularly strong, but usually Honda has some difficulties in Barcelona, so I think we can be a bit optimistic. Obviously, we have to put everything together, lap after lap, day after day, and see how the situation evolves during the weekend, but I am confident in my speed. As we have seen in several past weekends, a good grid position can make a difference for us.”
