New role
Alberto Puig will no longer be the team manager of the official Honda HRC team in MotoGP from next season. After almost a decade, the Spaniard will change role, while remaining within the Honda family. The official statement came today directly from the Japanese giant.
“After almost a decade as Team Manager of the official Honda HRC team in MotoGP, Alberto Puig will take on a key role as consultant for Honda HRC starting in 2027 – the note reads – Honda Racing Corporation will continue to benefit from Alberto Puig’s forty years of experience in the racing world, with the 59-year-old Barcelona native moving to a new role within Honda HRC. Appointed Team Manager of the official Honda HRC team in 2018, Puig led the team to win two consecutive Triple Crowns. In his new role, Puig will continue to assist the management and staff of Honda HRC in a range of activities across all Honda motorcycle disciplines. As an HRC consultant, Puig will continue to contribute to the development of HRC’s youth growth programs, while supporting Honda’s efforts in the MotoGP and WorldSBK championships, providing support to management and riders through a comprehensive evaluation of Honda HRC’s motorcycle activities”.

Brivio approaches
This role change seems the definitive forerunner to Davide Brivio joining the team. The current team principal of the Trackhouse team, as announced by Sky Sport MotoGP last weekend, is ready to accept Honda’s offer to lead the official team starting next year with the goal of bringing the Golden Wing back to the top of the World Championship. At this point, with the announcement of Puig’s move, only the official confirmation of Brivio’s hiring remains to mark the definitive start of a new era at HRC.
