Friday, February 27, nine days before the start of the Formula 1 World Championship, the International Federation has specified some aspects of the Sporting Regulations in view of the new season just around the corner. The most interesting ones are those relating to the duration of Q3 and the free tire choice in the race for Monte Carlo. Let’s discover them in detail:

Q3 will last 1 minute longer
Article B2.4.2 c) has been modified. First, the confirmations: Q1 will always last 18 minutes and will eliminate the 6 slowest cars of the session, Q2 will last 15 minutes and will choose the 10 drivers who will fight for pole position.
Slight modification for Q3: the break minutes between Q2 and Q3 will increase – from six to seven – and one extra minute will be added to the time available to the drivers. It will no longer be 12 but will become 13 minutes.

No mandatory stops in Monte Carlo
For the 2025 Monaco GP, the Federation had introduced the obligation to make at least 2 pit stops in dry conditions, using 3 sets of tires and at least 2 different compounds.
This will no longer happen in 2026: no obligation will be imposed regarding tires and stops for Monte Carlo. The footnote of article B6.2.4 has in fact been deleted, as have the other points connected to it.
