Raise your hand if you would have expected that after three rounds, with MotoGP arriving in Europe, the best Ducati rider in the standings would be Fabio Di Giannantonio. Yet the numbers don’t lie: the Roman rider is currently fourth in the championship, behind the Aprilia riders Bezzecchi and Martin and Pedro Acosta’s KTM. Diggia is 31 points behind the top of the standings, which would certainly have been fewer if Marc Marquez hadn’t knocked him down on the first lap of the Austin Sprint race, thus nullifying the excellent race pace that the V46 team rider had shown.
Dall’Igna’s Applause
Di Giannantonio’s speed at the start of this championship is evident and already emerges from qualifying, with two pole positions obtained in three races. None of the Ducati riders seem to have adapted so well to the GP26, and this can only please the general manager of the Borgo Panigale manufacturer, Gigi Dall’Igna. The Venetian manager, interviewed by Sky Sport during the celebratory event organized by Ducati for its 100th anniversary, had sweet words for Diggia.

“Fabio is doing well. Last year he was particularly unlucky due to an injury, much like what happened to Marc Marquez this year. When you come back from an injury, everything is more complicated; you miss tests and don’t start the championship in shape. This year, however, he has ‘the stars aligned’ and is doing well. Fabio has a lot of talent and is putting it to good use at this stage of the season. Good for him, we hope he continues like this”. Meanwhile, ‘paddock radio’ reports that his renewal with the VR46 team for the 2027 season is increasingly likely; it’s hard, after all, to think of letting go of a rider who is in such good form.
