Pole position for Ferrari

A masterful pole by a handful of milliseconds in WEC’s Monaco: Antonio Giovinazzi secured pole position in the 6 Hours of Imola, beating Ryo Hirakawa’s Toyota #8 by 11 milliseconds and Antonio Fuoco’s sister Ferrari 499P #50 by 40 milliseconds.

The head of the Ferrari pit wall Antonello Coletta commented on Saturday in Imola, regretting that the #83 had to settle for eighth position: “We saw how close the values between us and several opponents are, we were aware of it and for this reason, it was even better to get this pole position with the 499P number 51. We are happy to have two Ferraris in the top three starting positions for the race on a track like Imola, where overtaking is very difficult and the starting position can be a very important factor; the only regret is for the 499P number 83 which, despite doing well in all practices, failed to go beyond eighth position. We are aware that the 6 Hours of Imola will be a long and complex race, but we hope to be able to give our Tifosi an excellent performance.”

“The pole position of the 499P number 51 is the result of great teamwork and excellent execution by Antonio in a very competitive session – added Technical Director Ferdinando Cannizzothe margin is minimal and, like qualifying, the race will be equally hard-fought and open until the very end. With variable weather forecast and possible rain conditions in the afternoon, managing strategy, tires, and traffic will be crucial.”
