Starting this season, the starting grids of historic car races are enriched with a new category. ACI Sport has in fact published the 2026 Experimental Regulation for the Historic Car Sector dedicated to races with cars lacking sports homologation, both national and international. The initiative involves, starting from the Italian Historic Car Circuit Speed Championship and also non-titled events, all those cars that do not have FIA homologation or homologation issued by ACI/CSAI, thus opening up to a wider pool of vintage models and preparations.

News for historic car races
The regulation, included in the National Sporting Yearbook, formally opens to cars produced between 1966 and 2000, with a classification organized into nine historical periods: from G1 (1966-1969) to K2 (1997-2000), in line with what is already provided for by the Sector Technical Regulation. These are not only “pure” production cars, but also some coming from historic one-make trophies, including the Ford Mexico Trophy (1975-1977), the Alfasud 1350 Trophy (1978-1982), the Renault 5 Alpine Trophy in the Cup version (1977-1981), the Renault Clio Elf Trophy (1992-1994) and the Mini Cooper Trophy (from the 90s onwards). Other one-make series may also be admitted upon specific request to the Historic Car Commission.

Correct technical documentation required
On an operational level, each participant must ensure correct technical documentation: a mandatory technical sheet issued by the ACI Sport Technical Area (with or without the competitor’s collaboration) or an HTP is required, in addition to safety requirements defined for drivers and cars, registration procedures and pre-race checks. Permitted modifications remain limited and strictly controlled, with the aim of preserving the historical identity of the cars. The formula is explicitly experimental: there is no championship with an overall ranking or the awarding of titles, but race-by-race results divided by historical period, with the possibility that ACI Sport updates or integrates the regulation during the season.
