Sometimes they return

The 2026 season is the first for Red Bull without the presence of Helmut Marko in the pits. The former Austrian driver had been a key figure for the Austrian company’s F1 project since the time of its debut in the top category of motorsport, dated 2005. At the end of last year Marko – who will blow out 83 candles at the end of April – decided to call it a day and take a step back, as he had been hinting for some time.
The former Red Bull consultant followed the first three races from home and has not yet been seen in the paddock, although he has given some interesting interviews.

Marko will be ambassador of the Red Bull Ring

On Thursday, April 9, Marko was in fact appointed new ambassador of the Red Bull Ring, a circuit owned by Red Bull. During the “Styrian Spring” event, Marko commented: “I am excited about this new role. I have a long-standing connection with this track. Because of my age, I experienced the very first F1 GPs, in 1970, and there was incredible enthusiasm. With the entry of Red Bull, the circuit has entered a new dimension.”
Marko will be an ambassador for both F1 and MotoGP. Thomas Uberall, CEO of the circuit, explained the reasons for the choice of the Austrian: “He is originally from Styria and the track is located in Styria. We get along well and he has a good relationship with Red Bull. To prevent him from stopping completely after retirement, I proposed this to him.” Marko will therefore be seen again in the paddock on June 28 for the F1 race and on September 20 for MotoGP.
