Porsche will launch its seven-seater flagship SUV, known internally as K1, in 2028. It is a D-SUV segment model that will occupy a market segment previously unexplored by the Stuttgart brand. After abandoning the initial idea of presenting it as a fully electric project (an idea that remains plausible for the future), the German company has announced that it will share the platform with the Audi Q9 and also that it will be offered with internal combustion and hybrid engines.

Porsche prepares a seven-seater D-SUV
The decision follows a strategic rethink by Porsche, almost forced by cost pressures and delays in the group’s electric architectures. In this way, the company aims to contain development costs by leveraging the VW Group’s PPC architecture. The new K1 will be offered in a wide range of configurations: four, five, and seven seats. According to Autocar, it will compete in the market with rivals such as the BMW X7 and Mercedes‑Benz GLS.
It won’t be just electric, quite the opposite…
According to the latest rumors, Porsche will offer this D-SUV with **4,0-liter twin-turbo V8 and 3,0-liter V6** engines, with power outputs expected to cover a range similar to that of the Cayenne. The first gasoline and plug-in hybrid units are expected to arrive approximately twelve months after the launch of the Q9, with key markets including the USA, Middle East, China, and Europe. The K1 is expected to be produced at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava, where it will be assembled alongside the Q9 and other group models.
