The differences
The debut of Genesis Magma Racing in the WEC is getting closer, with the first event to be held in Imola from April 17 to 19 following the cancellation of the Qatar 1812 km. In the meantime, the Korean manufacturer has presented the official liveries of its two GMR-001s, with the final decision on the look of the prototypes made after being modified several times during pre-season testing. The common element of the #17 and the #19 noticed after the unveiling is the Korean flag and the word ‘Magma’ in the traditional Korean alphabet on the hood, but with two main differences: while the first (driven by André Lotterer, Pipo Derani and Mattys Jaubert) features an anthracite gray base with orange lettering, the second (with Dani Juncadella, Paul-Loup Chatine and Matthieu Jaminet at the wheel) is matte black with white characters.

The first statements
The presentation of the cars, built in collaboration with Oreca (chassis) and powered by a 3.2L Turbo V8 engine, completes a great deal of work started last year, to the satisfaction of Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul: “From the beginning we wanted to use the best possible collaborators and resources, linking up with Oreca and drawing on their experience was a natural choice – he commented – the use of the Hyundai Motorsport-based WRC engine guaranteed us a powerful, proven, and high-performance powerplant. These choices were fundamental in the initial development phase to help us meet the deadlines we had set for ourselves.”

Highlighting Genesis’ efforts and commitment were also the words of Engineer Justin Taylor: “We had set ambitious goals in terms of mileage for various components and we achieved almost all of them, but above all it was productive. In addition to endurance, we also focused on ensuring we can race consistently at our full potential, in compliance with the WEC technical regulations. Our first goal this season is to finish races without experiencing problems or incurring penalties. Then we can start thinking about moving up the standings, step by step, with Hyperpole appearances, reaching the finish line without being lapped, and aiming for a top-five finish based on pace.”
