Montezemolo between Antonelli and Ferrari
Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, guest on the Radio1 program “La politica nel pallone”, was asked which side he would take in the event of a world championship battle between Antonelli and Ferrari. Although Andrea Kimi is from Bologna like the former president of the Prancing Horse, the answer was predictable: the Reds. And how could it have been otherwise.
Called by Enzo Ferrari in the 70s as an assistant and Sporting Director, he led the team to Lauda’s titles, but it is his presidency (1991-2014) that remains legendary. Under his wing, Maranello went from a deep crisis to absolute hegemony. His intuition was to create the “Dream Team” composed of Jean Todt and Michael Schumacher, inaugurating an era of unprecedented success that yielded 19 world titles between drivers and constructors.
Montezemolo’s words
“It would be something sensational, because for the first time Ferrari would be fighting for the world championship against an Italian driver. Something out of a movie. But let’s keep our feet on the ground, because from what I’ve seen in the first three races, Mercedes is superior to a Ferrari that doesn’t yet have the car to win. But I have a red heart and I couldn’t think of anything but a Ferrari victory.“

After Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s second consecutive Formula 1 victory, Italian news outlets have dedicated significant space to the 19-year-old Mercedes driver.
