Chasing Mercedes
In the first three races of this season, Ferrari has collected three third places, two with Charles Leclerc (Australia and Japan) and one with Lewis Hamilton (China). The Maranello team is thus second among the constructors with 90 points, 45 points behind Mercedes, the dominator of this initial phase of the championship.
The break in the month of April, caused by the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, will allow teams to fine-tune updates to climb back up.
Ferrari, anticipation for the ‘package and a half’ for Miami
Already in Shanghai, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur had emphasized that Ferrari is determined to review and improve the SF-26, even evoking a “package and a half“ of developments for the first race in May.
In Suzuka, speaking to Sky Sport Deutschland, Vasseur explained: “Don’t misunderstand my statements, everyone will have updates and will modify their cars. Everything will change, it will be a new season. In the first races we didn’t give our best, also because of the budget cap. From now on everyone will push to the maximum. The most important thing will be the teams’ ability to introduce new updates.”
