Bosch aims to double its revenue in the heavy commercial vehicle business. This was announced by the German multinational itself, which on the occasion of the IAA Transportation in Hannover illustrated its strategy for the future. A future in which key technologies will be high-performance propulsion systems and software-defined truck solutions.

Bosch and the future of commercial vehicles
Some numbers first of all. After a positive first half of the year, Bosch expects a moderate growth in global truck production, around 1%, reaching about 3.3 million units, with a forecast to reach 4 million units by the mid-2030s. In light of these forecasts and the market spread of related technologies, the German company sees, as already mentioned, the potential to double sales of technologies for heavy vehicles by the mid-2030s, which today exceed 4 billion euros.
Propulsions and technology
We talked about propulsions. Well, Bosch is consolidating its position in the battery electric mobility market. This year, facts speak, one third of all newly registered battery electric trucks in Europe will be equipped with Bosch electric motors and inverters. The German company announces that there is an important new order from Daimler Truck for the electric eActros truck: the agreement concerns the supply of components for 100% electric propulsion systems produced in Europe.
Every market is different
“As in the car segment, also in the commercial vehicle market the pace of transformation varies depending on the regions“, Bosch says. Zero-emission mobility, in fact, is rapidly gaining momentum and spreading especially in China. In this sense, the company estimates that by 2030 about one in four newly registered heavy trucks worldwide will be powered solely by battery or fuel cells. The share should rise to about half by 2035. Conversely, in the North American market the traditional diesel engine continues to prevail, in some cases in hybrid version.
Future with autonomous driving
Moreover, thanks to intelligent sensors and software solutions, Bosch is also laying the foundations for autonomous driving and is helping to reduce the total cost of ownership for fleet operators. “The goal is to achieve Level 4 autonomous driving, also to help address the shortage of drivers in the logistics sector. The software is able to handle increasingly complex driving tasks, thus reducing the load on the logistics system”, said Markus Heyn, Vice Chairman of the Board of Management of Bosch and President of the Mobility business sector, outlining the roadmap towards autonomous driving.
