Skoda needs to launch an electric successor to the Fabia as the entry model to the brand for the future. Words from Klaus Zellmer, CEO of the Czech company, who emphasized that the project related to the new hatchback is still in the planning phase. The head of Skoda also reiterated that the current Fabia with combustion engine, along with the Kamiq crossover and the Scala hatchback, will remain in production until the 2030s.
Skoda Fabia will have an electric successor
“But at some point these models will be phased out. And, of course, we will need replacements, like a battery electric version of the Fabia“, added Zellmer. Initially, the company had considered an entry-level electric hatchback based on the reduced platform intended for the future series version of the Volkswagen ID Every1. But then, at the group level, it was decided that the German company will take care of that market segment. “We deliberately stepped out, because we will cover the combustion engine segment”, he specified.
Price around 20,000 euros
It is true that the Fabia still enjoys a very strong demand. Zellmer himself acknowledged this, and explained: “That car will have to be replaced within our range. What will it look like? It will be priced well below 20,000 euros. Or maybe slightly above? I don’t know, we haven’t made any decisions yet.” It remains a segment that the Czech company must maintain. “If you move a brand’s positioning too high, it’s like a ladder: you enter at a certain level and, if the first step is raised too much, no one will be able to enter the house. That’s why we will have to find a solution for a battery electric version of the Fabia”, he concluded.

Talks will resume in the new decade
Returning to the range developments, the Skoda CEO clarified: “Fabia, Kamiq and Scala will remain on the market until the early 2030s, perhaps even until 2034. After that, they could reach a natural conclusion, if Europe confirms 2035 as the deadline for stopping the sale of new non-zero emission cars. It is precisely in this time frame that we will have to find a replacement model. Probably, at first the sector overestimated the speed of this transition. But as long as we cover a significant share of market segments with the Fabia and Kamiq, and can count on the ID Every1 within the group, we will be in a favorable position at the group level.”
