The Inferno of Monza
Excluding those who retired from the Italian Grand Prix, with Leclerc crashing violently into the barriers exiting the Alboreto corner and the Aston Martins stopped due to technical problems, the Cadillacs were once again the cars that crossed the finish line last. While Sergio Perez finished in 18th position, behind him came Valtteri Bottas, the only driver two laps behind the winner.

The big difference
This once again shows the great difficulties Cadillac is experiencing, in its first year in Formula 1 and without any points scored in the Constructors’ Championship. Improvements that were not seen even with the arrival of the new team principal, in a nightmare weekend for both drivers: “It was a very difficult race for us – commented Perez – we were losing a lot of time on the straights, which made it extremely difficult to fight with the cars close to us. Our cornering pace was much closer to the others, so it was frustrating to see such a big difference on the straights. We should receive some components that will help us on the straights and with the next Ferrari engine. The team is working hard to get everything sorted as soon as possible and we hope this puts us in a much stronger position for the next races.”

Unlike his teammate, Bottas wanted to focus on a positive aspect of the race, even if this lasted only partially: “I think the first stint of the race was one of the most positive so far. We felt we were fighting with the Williams for a long time, but unfortunately in the second stint we lost a lot of time. We had a slow pit stop that forced us into blue flag zone, which made it difficult to find the rhythm and ultimately compromised our race. We had a much quieter weekend that allowed us to focus on improving details rather than solving problems. Our race pace seemed slightly better compared to previous GPs and we finished with both cars, so we are making progress.”
