Hamilton highly motivated
The one seen in Melbourne was certainly a different Lewis Hamilton from last year, smiling and determined to get the most out of his Ferrari SF-26. If the result in qualifying was not optimal, with seventh place, in the race with fourth the Englishman showed that he extracted the maximum from his Red car.
His start was truly important, given that from the seventh spot on the grid he found himself third already in the very early stages.

Recovery operation
Ferrari clearly seemed to be the second fastest car and therefore Hamilton’s mind is already turned to the recovery operation: “I believe we can close the gap. It won’t be easy, there is a lot of work to do because they have a significant advantage especially on the flying lap. We need to find out if it’s the fault of the power or the battery, but our car seems as fast as theirs in the corners and therefore we must continue to push”, he underlined to Sky Sport UK.
Hamilton, in addition to the missed stop with the first VSC, observed to Dazn Spain that he could have done even better at the start: “My start was great, but at the first corner I left too much space on the inside because they were in my blind spot and I went wide, ending up losing two positions. It wasn’t ideal”. Positions immediately recovered in the following corners.
