Update less effective than expected
The Honda ‘Spec-2’ power unit brought by the Japanese manufacturer to the Netherlands did not deliver the expected results in terms of performance increase regarding power. The goal was to recover 30 horsepower, but only a little more than half was found.

The verdict from Monza risks being harsh for Aston Martin, at Honda they are at least trying to work on the drivability of the engine to be at their best at least from that point of view.
“Lap times at Monza are strongly influenced by power. With the introduction of our spec 2 engine at Zandvoort, we made a step forward in terms of performance, but we must be realistic about the next weekend, as we know we are still behind our competitors in terms of overall power – admitted Shintaro Orihara – our main goal at the Italian Grand Prix is to improve drivability. Since the Dutch Grand Prix, we have worked a lot on the test bench at HRC Sakura to improve this aspect and, in particular, to achieve stable and consistent combustion control.”
