Bezzecchi: “I got the most out of this weekend. Acosta tricked me, but today he was faster”

He may not have shaken Marc Marquez’s lead, but during the Aragón weekend Marco Bezzecchi was a major protagonist. The poleman was always the best of the Aprilias, achieving the maximum potential that the RS-GP26 offered him: two very solid races from the Romagna rider, just what was needed after a series of unlucky and melancholic weekends.

In the GP held today at MotorLand, Bezzecchi started better than yesterday: after Marquez’s overtake in turn 1, he promptly responded in turn 2 due to a mistake by the Spaniard, who left the downshifter activated. However, Bezzecchi had less pace, and within a few laps he was caught by the Spanish duo Marquez-Acosta, but comfortably maintained third position. A P3 that satisfies him, being – according to him – the best position he could achieve.

Bezzecchi’s words

“I am happy, it was a fantastic weekend. Last year here we struggled a lot and I knew it would be a somewhat tricky track. Instead, I worked perfectly together with all my guys and we were always fast“, this is Bezzecchi’s comment to Sky Sport MotoGP. “In these two races I gave everything and managed to bring home the maximum“.

About the double maneuver by Marquez and Acosta (the latter author of a stunning move on the outside of turn 16), Bezzecchi added: “When I found myself alongside Marc there was an accordion effect, I wanted to move away but I was pulled in. Unfortunately, I found myself too far to the left and couldn’t brake as I wanted, Acosta tricked me there. Honestly, though, I think Pedro was slightly faster than me today, lap after lap he was slowly pulling away; obviously I would have liked to battle more, but I believe he would have had the upper hand anyway“.

In the Riders’ World Championship, the rider from Rimini is now third, 24 points behind Jorge Martin and 5 behind Marquez. Considering the physical struggles, losing only 14 points to Marquez on the ideal track for the Spaniard and getting closer to the top of the World Championship is an excellent result.
