Volvo is preparing to launch Safety Coach. It is a new app that will be available as an option, providing drivers with real-time driving information and advice, easily accessible from the infotainment system screen and the Swedish company’s mobile app. These will be based on the driver’s behavior in daily traffic, for example in braking, acceleration, and cornering, and rely on the knowledge and safety data acquired by Volvo over decades of field experience.

New Volvo safety app
“Our research shows that many accidents are associated with one or more elements of surprise. What helps to avoid them is predictability – explained Mikael Ljung Aust, driving behavior expert at Volvo – Staying within the speed limits and avoiding sudden maneuvers makes driving more predictable for others and reduces the risk of accidents. Promoting safe driving behaviors is a key piece of the puzzle we need to solve to eliminate accidents, and tools like Safety Coach can help turn the knowledge gained over the years into safer everyday driving habits.”
First in Sweden and Norway
Volvo itself has announced that the first markets to welcome this new app will be Sweden and Norway. Here, drivers of most Volvos from Model Year 2020 will soon be able to download the new application by taking advantage of a special usage-based offer from the insurance company Volvia, if they decide to share their driving data. Later, the app will also be available in the USA and other European markets.
