The start of IONIQ 3 production follows an investment of 250 million euros aimed at enabling the production of electric vehicles in Turkey, which has led to a profound transformation of the İzmit plant over the past two years.

The factory in detail

Over 50% of the plant has been modernized to enable the production of the latest generation of electrified Hyundai vehicles, in line with the Brand’s strategy regarding a flexible range of powertrains, while strengthening Turkey’s role as an increasingly important hub for automotive production destined for Hyundai’s European customers.

Founded in 1997, Hyundai Motor Turkey has been producing vehicles for almost 30 years, with a total investment of 1.185 billion euros made during this period. The production of the new IONIQ 3 opens a new chapter for the plant and underlines the company’s long-term strategic commitment to advanced production in Turkey.

The strategy

The company continues to support the development of a solid infrastructure around the İzmit plant. As part of the collaboration with Hyundai Mobis, an affiliate company of Hyundai Motor Group, the addition of a battery system assembly plant, located within the İzmit production site, will enable future support for the assembly of batteries for hybrid vehicles. The production of IONIQ 3 will contribute to the economic development of the region. The vehicle will be available on the market starting from September this year (depending on the reference market), with two different battery and motor options. VB
