We focused on improving engine performance to make combustion faster – explained Orihara – we modified the pre-chamber to make combustion faster. We also modified the shape of the piston to achieve good combustion. Additionally, we modified some lubrication systems to reduce friction.”

Orihara remained tight-lipped about what should be the increase in terms of power of the Honda power unit: “I cannot reveal the exact numbers, but we have achieved our internal goal and I am confident in the results obtained by the guys at the HRC plant in Sakura for the Spec-2 engine. We are excited to bring the new Spec engine to the Netherlands.”
