Di Giannantonio, the only stronghold against the Aprilias
Fabio Di Giannantonio closed the MotoGP Practice at Silverstone with a convincing third time, confirming the good feeling with the British track and the competitiveness of his Ducati from the VR46 team. The Roman rider showed a consistent pace throughout the session, earning direct access to Q2 with a delay of four tenths from a supersonic Marco Bezzecchi. Diggia ended up in the big Aprilia “sandwich,” being third behind Bez and Raul Fernandez but ahead of Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura.

Di Giannantonio’s words
“The FP1s were really traumatic, when you get back on a MotoGP at Silverstone after three weeks off it’s difficult, but I had fun,” this is Di Giannantonio’s comment to Sky Sport MotoGP.
“In the end, it seems we are not that far away. Also in terms of pace, I did a good job, we took a few steps back with the setup, going back to the bike from the very start of the year, and the feeling was immediately good. From there I started to build the day. We started with the bike from the start of the year and it worked very well“.

With four Aprilia riders in the top five positions, it is impossible not to point to the Noale factory as the favorite: “We knew they worked very well here, they have been making the difference for years now, so the goal was to stay as close as possible. The Aprilia riders are the ones to watch. At Ducati, Marc will always be there, even Alex was really fast last year, he was the only one at their level, but the Aprilias are the ones that are a bit more frightening at the moment. I’m glad to be not too far away, but surely we have to try to take countermeasures“.
Friday at Silverstone therefore offered interesting indications for the rest of the weekend, with a very high level of competitiveness and a fight for the victory that cannot be limited to Aprilia alone. Bezzecchi’s conditions need to be tested in the race, while Di Giannantonio and Marquez showed an interesting pace.
