MotoGP, Acosta towards Silverstone
Pedro Acosta approaches the British Grand Prix as a “luxury outsider,” a role that now feels tight for him but he hopes to shed starting in 2027 with the move from KTM to Ducati.
At Silverstone, the Spaniard will try to continue his growth path, exploiting a circuit that requires surgical precision in the fast sections, where missing an entry by a few centimeters affects even the following corners. It does not reward heavy braking much, one of his huge strengths, and it is no coincidence that he has never won in England, not even in the dominant 2023 Moto2 season. Acosta, however, does not see himself far from the best: at Silverstone he can race defensively, but the Tiburón made very interesting remarks about his world championship prospects during the press conference.
Acosta’s words
“The first part of the season did not go badly. We had some technical problems and this somewhat excluded us from the championship fight, but it is a surprise not to have done so badly. We try to have a good weekend at Silverstone, last year it was perhaps the toughest weekend of the whole calendar, we hope to have a more positive weekend and to keep ourselves ‘alive’ until the Asian rounds,” this is Acosta’s comment. “It would take a miracle to fight at the top this weekend. At the moment we have to try to get into the top 5 positions, we are not too far from the top of the championship, so we have to keep believing and try to have good races.”
“KTM is working hard, in the second part of the season we will try not to have these technical problems and maybe we can try to get back into the fight for the top positions in the championship. If we manage to avoid mistakes I believe that at the end of the year we will be closer than we expect,” he added. “Also, we will have tracks much more favorable to us compared to the first part of the calendar, normally in Austria and also in Asia we make progress, even Misano is more suitable for KTM. This is the time to improve and arrive at the final part of the year as high as possible: first of all to try to fight for the first win, but also to be closer to the top three in the World Championship.”
The statements made on the eve allow us to understand with what approach Acosta faces the British appointment and what goals have been set together with the team. In the riders’ standings the Tiburón is seventh at -60 from Jorge Martin: very little, considering the performance difference between the bikes.
