Does Toto Wolff fear Ferrari?
For team principals, the summer break is the time to take stock of the season so far. Toto Wolff congratulated his team but did not hide his concern about reliability, which has cost at least 70 points in the constructors’ standings.
The more attentive will have also noticed a certain focus from Wolff towards Ferrari. First the dispute regarding the pace of updates linked to the budget cap, which had sparked a rather strong reaction from Frederic Vasseur.
In recent days, the Mercedes manager had downplayed Ferrari’s victories, even stating that Hamilton and Leclerc were only able to win in Barcelona and Silverstone thanks to the Silver Arrows’ kind concession, amid unfortunate Safety Cars and technical problems.

Toto Wolff explained: “When we talk about the combustion engine alone, the FIA says Red Bull has the strongest engine. That is their method of measurement, but perhaps as an overall package we are the strongest. Ferrari keeps complaining about not having the most powerful engine. But I believe they have an absolutely competitive power unit, in a car designed to generate a lot of downforce, with flaps covering half of the exhaust. I think we are all more or less on par”.
