Marc grinds his teeth and wins the Sprint
“The strategy was clear: if I found myself first at the first corner, I would do three qualifying laps trying to pull away and then I would manage the race. And so I did”: the Hungarian Sprint went exactly as Marc Marquez had imagined – and perhaps dreamed. The Spaniard managed to make the most of his pole position, setting up a solitary race, with Pedro Acosta only able to watch him from afar, never being able to think of an attack.

Marquez admitted to Dazn Spain that he had already entered ‘saving mode’ during the Sprint: “I wanted to push for three laps as if I were in qualifying, without thinking about the tires, and when I saw I had a 1.5-2 second lead, I conserved my energy and saved myself for tomorrow, which will be a bit longer. This track, being left-handed, suits me well. Compared to the beginning of the season, we have made a small step forward on the left, because I am starting to play with my body on the bike.”
Marquez and the crazy idea…
With the 12 points gained in the Balaton Sprint, Marc Marquez recovered 5 points from leader Marco Bezzecchi, bringing him to -97. A huge gap, but perhaps not so insurmountable with a 2025-format Marquez. Marc replied with a smile: “I don’t know if I’ll be the 2025 version, but I know I’ll be back. I’d rather die on the shore than not try at all.”
“For me, the fundamental thing now is to continue improving,” continued the nine-time world champion, adding: “This result doesn’t mean my physique has changed in three days. What changed was the track; here there are only three right-hand corners where you have to push hard. But you have to enjoy all the positive moments, because this gives you the drive to keep pushing,” Marquez emphasized.
