The story animated the eve
The issue related to the Mercedes front wing which in China had shown a ‘double’ closure animated the eve of the Japanese GP. The FIA closed the matter, emphasizing that they had accepted Mercedes’ explanation, which stated they had made a calculation error, triggering what was ultimately a problem to manage rather than a solution that guaranteed a performance advantage.
Asked by Sky why Ferrari did not protest the Mercedes wing, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur responded: “We didn’t notice it live, we noticed it while analyzing the GP and at that point it was a bit too late to protest. I don’t want to create controversy about it, I just want to focus on our team.”
