Marquez, a courageous comeback
“It was a courageous decision“: this is how Marc Marquez defined his choice to return to a physical and demanding track like Mugello less than 20 days after double surgery on foot and shoulder. And Marquez managed to bring home 14 points, the result of a fifth place in the Sprint and seventh in the Sunday Grand Prix. The Spanish champion’s difficulties in changing direction were evident, but Marquez’s incredible determination allowed him to complete the entire weekend without even risking a fall.

Ducati awaits him with confidence
At the end of the Italian Grand Prix, Sky Italia asked Davide Tardozzi – Ducati team manager – if they had any concerns about Marquez’s recovery: “Today Marc managed and didn’t want to overdo it. Clearly we know he is more performant than what he showed today, but it was right to bring the bike to the end without taking too many risks and wait for the improvement of his physical condition“. Full support for Marquez, then: “We don’t need to worry, we need to wait and be patient. We are aware, as is Marc, that it takes time. The only thing to do is improve race by race, then when he is in shape I believe he will show all his speed”.
Mauro Grassilli – Ducati sporting director – described how the box experienced the weekend: “Marc’s physical condition on Friday was a bit worrying because he was not 100% fit. We were waiting to understand after the first day on track how he would behave over the weekend. In the end, it went much better than we expected. We are worried because injuring the shoulder is always something serious, but he is moving in the right direction”.
