The cameras and photographers present in the Montreal paddock captured a public conversation between the Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, and Jos Verstappen, father of the four-time Red Bull world champion. The conversation only increased rumors about a possible move of Max Verstappen to the Brackley team, especially after what happened last season: in that case, the then reigning world champion was repeatedly ‘courted’ by Wolff following Hamilton’s departure, with the Austrian manager even filmed on his yacht with the current #3 during the summer break in Sardinia.

Mekies calm
Continuous episodes that would therefore seem to open the doors to Verstappen at Mercedes, but the first to want to downplay what happened in Canada was Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies, explaining his opinion during the press conference reserved for team principals: “As exciting as it may seem to see it from the outside, I really don’t think there is any particular intention behind it. If any of these guys wanted to talk, it would still be news. We talk continuously with Max and Jos. It is absolutely natural that they talk with Toto. Max raced last week with a Mercedes GT3. I really don’t think it is part of a strategy to send a message“.
