Crucial starts
The starts could make a huge difference in the first races of the new F1 season. Confirmation of what everyone has been talking about in the paddock in recent days comes from Carlos Sainz. The Williams driver was the protagonist of an event organized in Madrid by his sponsor Estrella Galicia, in which he spoke about the current situation of the Circus on the eve of the first GP of this new era.

The topic of starts and their potential danger – given the delay in the ‘push’ of the turbo component – is on everyone’s lips. Sainz denied that there is actually a danger to driver safety, but confirmed the thoughts of those who believe that this year starts could take on even greater relevance in the outcome of the race.
“Dangerous starts? I don’t think so. I think we have all learned a lot about starts; we will arrive in Australia and we will start. Maybe well, maybe badly, but I don’t think it’s dangerous. What I believe is that there will be a lot of difference compared to the past: where you could gain 4 or 5 meters of difference, now I believe there could be 15 or 20 meters, which are 3 or 4 positions”, declared the former Ferrari driver.
Williams’ problems
Sainz then mentioned – without going into too much detail – also the problems Williams had at the start of this year, which had forced the Grove team not to show up for the Barcelona shakedowns at the end of January. “It’s too long a story to tell here, but we simply had production and manufacturing problems. We believed we could do things in a certain period of time but we realized that was not the case and we arrived late. We have nothing left to do but learn to analyze why we believed one thing and another happened and change the structures, the production chains so that it doesn’t happen to us again,” the Spaniard concluded.
