F1, Sainz thinks about the future
Carlos Sainz is experiencing a Formula 1 season that is definitely more complicated than the expectations born after the excellent second half of 2025. The Spanish driver had finished last championship in constant growth, hinting at the possibility of making a further leap in quality with Williams. In 2026, however, the results have not come with the hoped-for continuity and the performance has remained below expectations.

Sainz’s difficulties are mainly related to the competitiveness of the car and the complexity of finding the right feeling every weekend. With the new regulations, the cars gain seconds in every GP, so developments are very important. And in this Williams has disappointed expectations, first by presenting the FW48 late and then introducing a first package in Miami that was scarcely effective. Sainz is therefore looking around to understand whether to renew the contract or seek a new adventure in F1.
Sainz’s words
“Honestly, I don’t know when I will make a decision about my future. I will wait until summer to sit down with my team and reflect on this, but I can’t give a date,” these are Sainz’s words.

“I will discuss the future of the team and my future within it. I expect that during the summer we will start making a decision and have a clearer picture of the situation, but I still don’t know exactly when,” he added.
The second part of the season now represents a fundamental opportunity both for a revival at Williams and to showcase himself to other teams. For the Spaniard, there has been talk of a reunion with Mattia Binotto, but the same Audi boss has closed the doors after the refusal two years ago.
