Ready for the Nürburgring with a Mercedes
Waiting for the Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has expressed a goal for this weekend: to win the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The Dutchman will face the Green Hell of the Nordschleife together with Daniel Juncadella, Jules Gounon, and Lucas Auer behind the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, but this very car has caused some discontent at Ford.

In Germany with a Mustang
The American manufacturer, this year partner of Red Bull in the production of power units in Formula 1, did not hide what its wish would have been: to see Verstappen competing at the Nürburgring, but not in a Mercedes. This was admitted by Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford’s racing division, who in a recent meeting with the media on the occasion of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps indicated what his preference would have been. According to Sportscar365, moreover, the Blue Oval would have tried to bring Verstappen to this competition (in addition to the GT World Challenge Europe) with a Mustang GT3 Evo.

“We prefer our Ford drivers to stay in Ford – he declared – we understand his motivations. We love his passion. We greatly appreciate what he does for us in Formula 1. We appreciate the person he is. We appreciate the fact that he is a driver, whether it is sim racing or something else, this only makes him better. This is the right program for him at this moment. But obviously we would like to see him in a Ford in the world of sports cars.”
