The situation in the Middle East
Formula 1 has started a long break this week that will last until the beginning of May. A stop that, compared to the pre-set calendar, was in no way planned, but which became inevitable after the outbreak of war in the Middle East involving several nations in this world region. Among these are Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, with the latter having been scheduled to host the Circus on April 19 at the Jeddah circuit.

Work does not stop
And yet, near the capital Riyadh, the circuit that, according to plans, is expected to host Formula 1 from 2028 is slowly taking shape: the Qiddiya Speed Park. Conceived by former driver Alexander Wurz and designed by Hermann Tilke, this will be part of one of the most spectacular sports and entertainment complexes ever seen in the history of Formula 1. Particularly impressive, in fact, will be Turn 1.

Known as ‘The Blade’, it will reach the height of a 20-story building. A track that will include the characteristics of both street and permanent circuits, with a vertical drop of 108 meters. In addition to this, the goal will be to make the track the longest in the world championship (surpassing the record of Spa-Francorchamps), as well as building the largest central grandstand. A layout that will guarantee the highest safety standards, to the point of hosting not only Formula 1 races, but also those of other championships, including MotoGP.
