Divided for the future, united for the World Championship
Despite some slip-ups in recent races and the controversial ‘strike’ at Balaton, Jorge Martin managed to go on vacation as the leader of the MotoGP World Championship. An unthinkable feat just a few months ago, but one that risks being nullified by the impressive comeback that Marc Marquez is making in recent races, with Ducati. For Martin this season seems a bit like a flashback to 2024, when he won his first MotoGP title: today, as then, the Spaniard is competing for the championship as a ‘separated at home’. At the time he already knew he would leave the Ducati Pramac team to join Aprilia, now that he races with Aprilia he already knows his future will be with Yamaha.

This situation, however, does not scare Martintor: interviewed by the weekly Motosprint before the summer break, the Madrid rider reiterated that he feels the complete trust of the Noale factory towards him and does not fear ‘boycotts’ to favor teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who instead renewed his contract with the Italian brand at the beginning of the year.
“The relationship with Rivola? Last year I wanted to leave Aprilia and he wanted me to stay: there was a bit of a clash but then we decided to stay together and things have only gotten better. About what happened at Balaton Massimo has his opinion and I can’t control it – Martin noted – but the important thing is to talk and resolve internally. Now we are fine and I think we should stay more united than ever, since we have a great opportunity to win, and if we clashed we would have more to lose than to gain. I think his goal is to put me in a position to win. In the end I look at myself and think that he will do his best to allow me to win, so I am calm in this respect”.
