Marini, it's done with Tech3: two-year agreement

Marini in Tech3, only the official announcement is missing

Luca Marini is one step away from KTM. The Tavullia rider is about to sign a two-year contract with the Tech3 team, where he will replace Maverick Viñales, who has long been at odds with the French and in recent months has been plagued by physical problems with his left shoulder that will prevent him from racing at Silverstone.

According to Sky Sport MotoGP, the agreement between Marini and Tech3 was reached very quickly. The handshake came during the summer break and is the result of Günther Steiner‘s desire to field an experienced rider and a rookie in the next two seasons. Number 10 will almost certainly be joined by Senna Agius.

Not only that: the former Haas team principal also identified Marini as the ideal profile for sensitivity, development skills and technical expertise, considered very important qualities especially at the start of the new 850cc regulatory cycle.

Marini is out of Honda‘s plans for 2027, considering that the Japanese will focus on Fabio Quartararo, David Alonso and Diogo Moreira: it remains only to define which of the latter two will join the Diablo in the Factory team. The Japanese, while appreciating the work of the Italian (who is clearly the rider with the most points in the standings among the four from the golden wing house), have to give him up due to market choices already made months ago.

With the announcement of Marini and Agius in Tech3 now just a formality, few spots remain to be defined in the 2027 MotoGP grid. Only the official confirmations of Enea Bastianini in Trackhouse, Fermin Aldeguer and Nicolò Bulega in VR46, Izan Guevara in Pramac, and how Alonso and Moreira will “divide” between HRC and LCR are awaited.
