Small steps forward
After an absolutely positive Spanish weekend for Honda, with Johann Zarco’s front row and his 7th place in the race, the Japanese manufacturer returned to the track in Jerez de la Frontera along with all the other teams for the test sessions held on Monday. A useful day in part to analyze the problems encountered so far in the first rounds of the championship, but also to evaluate the setup differences of the RC213V and the electronic settings.

Work carried out by both Luca Marini and teammate Joan Mir, who finished 14th and 15th respectively in the combined timesheet, separated by just 81 thousandths: “A really intense day for us, I hoped to finish earlier but we continued to work until the last moment – commented Marini – in some areas we managed to make small steps forward, but it wasn’t a single big innovation, but rather many small pieces that, put together, can lead to something bigger in the future. In particular, regarding electronics, we were looking to improve acceleration and in this area, we obtained positive results. I believe these aspects can be useful to us in Le Mans, where we can evaluate performance in a normal GP. In tests, in fact, there is always a lot of grip, so it is not always a faithful representation of reality. A day rich in learning“.

There were also statements from Mir, who focused on the test day: “We tried to understand the direction to take to make further progress in the future, so it was an intense day. We had many ideas to experiment with to take another step forward, many things that cannot be tried during a normal weekend, so today was a productive day. For the future, we know what we need to do and I have a clear direction to follow. I hope we can already see short-term results in the next races.”
