The Spanish GP starts with a bang
The tricky Madring circuit has its first incidents. The protagonist of the decidedly more spectacular crash, fortunately without physical consequences for the driver, is the Thai Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, who crashed violently against the barriers in the third sector of the new track that this year hosts the Spanish GP of Formula 1: the young Thai driver, in his first full season of Formula 2, lost control of his car from the French team ART Grand Prix, ending up at high speed with the rear against the Tec-Pro barriers outside turn 19.

An accident so violent that it occurred during the first free practice on Friday of the Madrid event of the junior series, that it must have also involved the car’s tank to the point of almost immediately causing a bad fire at the rear: Inthraphuvasak immediately got out of the car to avoid worse consequences, but then it took at least a minute to extinguish the flames, with the car remaining stuck between the containment barriers. The track marshals took several minutes to load it onto the tow truck and clean the asphalt, since the impact happened at a high-speed point of the track, where there were no run-off areas but also no cranes to move the car beyond the barriers.
How many dangers at Madring
The session was interrupted with about thirty minutes to go before the checkered flag. However, this is not the very first incident of the weekend: earlier in the morning, during the Formula 3 free practice, it was the Italian Nicola Lacorte who hit the barriers, but at turn 9 and with a decidedly less dramatic dynamic causing the first red flag exposure. The Madring circuit, in short, confirms itself as particularly slippery and tricky, somewhat as already anticipated by many drivers during Thursday’s press conferences: not by chance Pierre Gasly said he “hit all the walls” during simulator training sessions.
