From single-seaters to Endurance

A new adventure is about to begin in the career of Jack Doohan, the 23-year-old Australian son of Michael, five-time World Motorcycle Champion. The former Alpine driver will return to competition after his brief and disappointing experience in Formula 1, which began at the final world championship round in 2024 and continued for only six more GPs the following season before being replaced by Franco Colapinto. After securing the role of Haas reserve driver at the beginning of this year, Doohan has reached an agreement with the Nielsen Racing team, with whom he will compete in the 2026 season of the European Le Mans Series in the LMP2 class.

The first comment

This will be the absolute first experience for the 2021 Formula 3 runner-up in an Endurance category, with Doohan sharing the wheel of the #24 ORECA 07 Gibson with Roy Nissany and Edward Pearson, for a completely renewed line-up formed by two other drivers coming from the world of single-seaters: “I am really excited to return to racing: it has been almost 12 months since my last race – Doohan stated – it is fantastic to be able to do it with Nielsen Racing and move to sports cars. There is a lot to learn and it is fundamental to accumulate experience behind the wheel, but we will adapt quickly, thanks also to the excellent team supporting me, and I can’t wait to start”.

For Doohan, this is now a great chance after the failed attempt in Super Formula, where the Australian failed to enter the Japanese championship due to negative tests: “With Roy Nissany and Ed Pearson we have a great mix of experience and determination, and I look forward to building a great rapport and aiming for important results. The Oreca 07 is a fantastic car and represents a completely different challenge, and I look forward to starting in the European Le Mans Series”. Everything is ready for the debut, scheduled for April 12 with the 4 Hours of Barcelona.
