Is rain coming to Zandvoort? Watch out for the Sprint

Formula 1 returns from the summer break and prepares for the last Dutch Grand Prix before saying goodbye to the Zandvoort calendar. As with every late summer around here, rain could disrupt the entire race weekend which – precisely for the circuit’s final farewell to F1 – will host the Sprint format.

Unpredictable rain in Zandvoort?

The weather forecast for the Dutch Grand Prix is constantly evolving, with rain already falling in the early days of the week. Precipitation could extend until the end of the weekend, although at times not necessarily compatible with the official sessions.

The highest risk of precipitation involves Friday and Saturday, already hectic due to the Sprint format. According to current accuweather.com forecasts, on the first day of the weekend showers are expected mainly in the morning (70%) with clearings and lower chances of rain in the afternoon during the Sprint Qualifying.

The main risk for Formula 1 is Saturday morning: here too there is currently a high probability of showers (over 60%) that could affect the Sprint race scheduled for 12 local time. The main qualifying, however, should not be affected by disturbances. The same situation applies to the Sunday race, where the risk of rain is almost nil.

The weather situation will obviously be monitored in the coming hours and days: experience from recent editions shows that very often, in the Netherlands, it is difficult to predict the arrival of disturbances – even intense ones – especially at this time of year.
