The weekend did not start off well for Franco Morbidelli, at his last home GP with the VR46 team. During today’s free practice sessions, the Roman rider actually hindered Enea Bastianini, committing an impeding against him. The incident did not go unnoticed by the Stewards, who penalized him with a long lap to be served during Sunday’s race.

At turn 13, Morbidelli stayed fully on the racing line at low speed while the KTM Tech3 rider was approaching, forcing the latter to slow down. A rather harsh penalty, but the result of numerous errors of this kind committed by Morbidelli during this world championship.

In the official document issued by the Race Direction, in fact, the penalty is explained in detail, going beyond this afternoon’s case with Bastianini: “Taking into account the numerous infractions by the rider during the season – it reads – the appropriate penalty in this case is a long lap penalty”.
