The Ferrari you don’t expect is the one that, after excellent performances on Friday and a pole position missed by a whisker on Saturday, suddenly collapses on the most favorable track of all, lost between a decidedly imperfect execution and a tire and strategy management that needs to be reviewed. However, there are also driver errors, with Lewis Hamilton who, after the penalty at the end of Q3 for impeding Oscar Piastri, also gets a five-second penalty in the race for speeding in the pit lane, squandering more points in the standings (albeit in favor of teammate Charles Leclerc) and thus returning to -50 from the World leader, Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

In short, an overall insufficient weekend, also considering the high level of expectations that followed the unexpectedly positive performances at Silverstone and Spa. And Lewis Hamilton doesn’t hide behind a finger at the end of the race, speaking at the interview ring to Sky microphones: “We gave up second position on track and I didn’t understand why. There has been good progress throughout the season, but I believe that this weekend, both Charles and I knew we had a car that should have put us in the top three positions, and instead we finished fourth and fifth. So it wasn’t a perfect execution. Missed opportunity for the team? In terms of result, definitely. This weekend we should have won…”.
Interviewed by French pay-TV Canal+, the seven-time world champion responded even more in monosyllables, showing particular disappointment especially for the overtake suffered by Max Verstappen, which further compromised his Sunday after the team had managed, with difficulty, to put him ahead of the Red Bull rival with the undercut: “It’s tough, really tough. But that’s how it went. The overtake? Well, yes… initially I didn’t see it coming”, Lewis Hamilton concluded.
