Macarena yes or Macarena no?
As reported in recent days, ahead of the planned schedule, Ferrari had decided to bring the rear wing with a flip-up profile – the so-called ‘Macarena‘ – already to China.
Certainly, Shanghai was not the most convenient weekend for its use, given that it was a Sprint weekend, and therefore the wing was seen on the two SF-26 of Leclerc and Hamilton only in FP1, before being removed ahead of the Sprint Qualifying. Not ideal for the two drivers to find the best setup ahead of the afternoon session, already decisive for the formation of the Sprint starting grid.
The Macarena wing will return
In the immediate aftermath of Sprint Qualifying, team principal Frederic Vasseur explained to Sky Italia that it was “a reliability test“.
No rejection in short. As highlighted by the French manager to Canal+, the flip-flop wing will also be fitted in Suzuka: “We need to test it to make it reliable and the only way we have to do tests is FP1. We will do another test in Japan and see when we will introduce it definitively“, Vasseur concluded.
