After more than a month of forced break due to the “postponement” of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia stages, Formula 1 is ready to return to the track in Miami with the revived Sprint format. While Friday and Saturday are expected to be clear and sunny, the same cannot be said for Sunday. According to current forecasts released by various agencies, May 3 could be a critical day in the Florida city due to a violent thunderstorm that could strike right at the start of the Grand Prix.
At the moment, the projection is for a 70% chance of heavy rain at the lights out, with several downpours expected throughout the afternoon. But that’s not all: the main concern is the possible presence of numerous lightning strikes around the circuit, which could primarily hinder the running of the race itself.

Risk of GP cancellation?
According to Formula 1 regulations, for safety reasons the presence of lightning near the circuit can cause the suspension or complete cancellation of the race. So all that remains is to wait and constantly monitor the weather forecasts, hoping to be able to enjoy a regular race Sunday also considering the presence of Formula 2 on track in Miami.
