F1, live report of FP2 of the Hungarian GP
17.05 – We also have the first lap times, with the two Ferraris picking up where they left off, leading the session: 1:19.648 for Lewis Hamilton, who precedes teammate Charles Leclerc by 455 thousandths on equal new Medium tires.
17.03 – In this session, we once again have on track the drivers who ceded their cockpits to young rookies in FP1. Specifically, Andrea Kimi Antonelli in Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas in Cadillac, Oliver Bearman in Haas, Oscar Piastri in McLaren, and Franco Colapinto in Alpine are back.
17.00 – That said, enough with the chatter because the engines are on and Free Practice 2 of the 2026 Hungarian GP is about to begin.
16.58 – Speaking of news from the Budapest paddock, Aston Martin is a major protagonist with no less than 16 visible updates, plus undeclared ones concerning mechanics and weight (only aerodynamic novelties must indeed be explicitly indicated by teams at the start of a weekend). Here’s how Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll’s AMR26 B-spec looks this weekend (though Stroll parked it on track due to a sudden left rear suspension failure).

16.55 – Five minutes to go and we show you the functioning of the three “Macarena” wings: at the top is the brand new McLaren one – which, however, will not be used in the race before Monza – and which seems to work with the same rotation as the Red Bull one (below), which has returned to Verstappen and Hadjar’s cars after the temporary stop at Spa; in the center, instead, the “usual”, but updated, Ferrari one.

16.53 – Then, while we wait, the Budapest track has announced that, after 40 years, the circuit’s corners will have names: there are Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, and Ayrton Senna, but also a local hero, and some other F1 champions. 16.50 – Ten minutes to go and it’s time to take a look at the weather: 34 degrees asphalt temperature, with the air decidedly pleasant (unusually, given that Mogyorod is usually an oven at the end of July) at “only” 24 degrees. There are some clouds in the sky but no rain is expected, at least not in the next hour.
16.48 – There is interesting news from the Ferrari garage: Charles Leclerc, after the problem suffered at the end of FP1, did not need to change the power unit, and will therefore continue to use what we imagine is still the “Friday” one, with many kilometers already behind it. Furthermore, after carrying out comparative tests between the new and old Macarena wing, Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari will also have the much-talked-about novelty available in FP2.

Good afternoon dear readers of FormulaPassion.it. We are live to tell you about Free Practice 2 of the F1 Hungarian GP weekend, which will start at 17:00 and end at 18:00, exactly one hour later. It will be a second session useful for truly getting to grips with a track that proved to be dirty and slippery in the first free practice, not to mention that for five regular drivers (including the World Championship leader, Andrea Kimi Antonelli), it will also be their first, as they ceded their seat to young debutant Frederik Vesti.
For the rest, Scuderia Ferrari started the weekend on the right foot, given Charles Leclerc’s best time in Free Practice 1 and Lewis Hamilton’s third, behind Max Verstappen’s Red Bull: the Red car seems in good form, but it’s clear that it’s only Friday, that not all rivals (see, for example, Antonelli) have driven, and that we need to wait a little longer before getting a clearer idea. Also because, among other things, Leclerc also had to stop – fortunately not losing too much track time – due to a technical problem with his SF-26.
What will we see at the close of this first day of free practice? Will Antonelli be immediately in form or will it take him time to find his rhythm? We just have to find out together, following and commenting live minute by minute on the direct report of Free Practice 2 of the 2026 F1 Hungarian GP.
