China in F1, BYD is thinking about it
BYD is considering entering motorsports and becoming the first Chinese team to participate in the Formula 1 World Championship in the near future. The rumor was reported by Bloomberg: at the moment it represents only a hypothesis, but the Circus would be the ultimate aspiration for those who are growing rapidly in the Chinese market and are attracted by a championship that, with the latest regulations, has taken a further step towards electric.

The mountain to climb is naturally represented by the entry costs to the grid and the added value that the brand would bring: although the presence of a Chinese team might tempt F1 as it would make the sport even more popular in the land of the Dragon, a prestigious name like Cadillac needed the support of the giant General Motors to participate in the World Championship.
BYD, currently the world’s largest seller of electric vehicles, could also “settle” for entering the share capital of an existing team and then completing the closing process at a later date, a path taken by Audi in 2023 which then led to the 100% acquisition of Sauber in 2025.

A super ally
A great “sponsor” of China in Formula 1 is FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. The Emirati, who also opened the Cadillac registration process, has repeatedly stated that he wants 12 teams, including at least one American and another Chinese.
