Nightmare Sunday
The home GP could not have ended worse for Marco Bezzecchi. In Misano, the rider from Rimini, who hoped to give a positive twist to his championship, suffered a disastrous crash during the first lap while leading the race. This mistake instantly dropped him to -33 from the top of the World Championship, now held by the Martin-Marquez duo.
Understandably, after this fall – which happened at a key moment in the championship – doubts and criticism towards Bezzecchi poured in; there is growing skepticism about the Aprilia rider’s chances of still being in the running for a title that, after the Mugello weekend, seemed firmly in the hands of the Noale factory. However, Bezzecchi has a tough character and wanted to respond in his own way – that is, with a touch of irony – to those who criticized him after Sunday’s mistake.
Sharp social media response
So, during Monday morning, Bez posted a decidedly special ‘story’ on Instagram: Bezzecchi actually reposted a famous excerpt from a press conference by football coach Alberto Malesani, dating back to when the Verona coach was managing Genoa. The episode – now a historic ‘meme’ on social networks – is the one where Malesani attacked journalists, accusing them of calling him “soft” and being disrespectful towards his work. The quote also ‘matches’ perfectly with the helmet Bezzecchi sported in Misano, with the phrase “I don’t give up the bone” which, however, did not bring him luck.

The social media reply was funny and in full ‘Bezzecchi style’ but will have to be backed up by facts: next weekend in Austria, at the Red Bull Ring, Aprilia’s #72 will be called upon to prove he has truly left behind the ‘zero’ of Misano and is ready to silence critics by relaunching himself in the race for the World Championship title. Marquez and Martin are not waiting.
