Bezzecchi settles for 2nd place at Le Mans

Everything seemed set at Le Mans for Marco Bezzecchi‘s fourth win of the season. However, Jorge Martin disagreed, and with a masterful race, he climbed from seventh to first position overtaking rider after rider. The Romagna rider resisted as much as he could, but his teammate simply had more and overtook him aggressively at Dunlop three laps from the end.

The #72, who maintains the World Championship lead by one point over Martin, analyzes his race clearly, still considering himself satisfied to have achieved top-3 both in the Sprint and the Race despite a pace that did not guarantee him the podium.

Bezzecchi’s words

I am happy because it was a weekend where I was never really comfortable: I really gave my best and honestly I don’t know how I managed to stay ahead for so many laps, because the pace wasn’t very fast. Clearly, if you are ahead three laps from the end, being overtaken hurts, but we have to be happy,” this was his comment to Sky Sport MotoGP. “Considering how the Sprint went yesterday, I didn’t think I was fast enough to get top-3 both yesterday and today, but I managed it.”

Throughout the weekend I suffered, to be fast I stressed the bike a bit more than usual. I tried to give the last push when Jorge overtook Acosta: I saw I wasn’t pulling away and I understood he would definitely catch me, also because I was starting to fade,” he added. “I faded first with the rear, and when that happens you try to push a bit more with the front to turn and brake hard, because you have less on the exit. That’s what I did for half the race, and towards the end I started struggling even with the front. In fact, even Ogura was coming up very strong at the end: if there had been one more lap, maybe he would have beaten me.”
