Rubinho at Monza school with Zanardi
Rubens Barrichello is one of the drivers with a very long career behind him in modern Formula 1. Brazilian from São Paulo, born in 1972, he arrived in the Circus in 1993 with Jordan, after making a name for himself in the lower formulas, and built a career spanning 19 seasons, with 11 wins and 68 podiums.
Among his successes in red is also the 2004 Italian Grand Prix, right at Monza. A bond with the Brianza circuit that Barrichello renewed on Saturday, September 5, returning to drive the F2002 on track. With that car Barrichello won four races that season. Rubinho revealed to us that the legend from Castelmaggiore Alessandro Zanardi taught him how to fly at Monza.
“I arrived at Monza for the first time one evening in 1992 and I met someone in the pits who then became very important to me because he had to come to tell me how to drive on that track – Barrichello’s words – because it was the first time I was going to race there with Formula 3000. That person was Alessandro Zanardi who taught me how to drive here.”

“He showed me all the videos and from that moment on I was flying – added Rubinho – Sandro has always been a very, very important person because in the end the decision to drive for the Barone Rampante 92 team (F3000 team ed.) was not only because it was an Italian team, and I already spoke Italian from Draco, but because I knew the quality of the team. Then the team was from Padua and when I found out that my family of origin in Italy was from Treviso I thought there was a magic in all that, and Zanardi was very present with us and I learned a lot from him.”
